Our Mission
Why did we start this website?
The goal of our website is to give students opportunities to learn more about political and global issues while helping others acknowledge the issues currently happening in the present. Overall, we hope to emphasize today's problems while also allowing others to use their style of expression to highlight these problems.

Read about the impact that The Scholar Series has had!
“The Scholar Series started from one thought I had at a cafe on a random day of June: ‘How can I help students advocate for what they’re really passionate about?’ This small thought turned into nights of planning with Yena and into the project it is today. Reading all the stories that everyone sends to us has truly opened my eyes to the impact The Scholar Series has had on both the writers and the readers. I look forward to every meeting with the board, knowing that we are bound to ignite a desire for advocacy in at least one person’s mind. I look forward to every submission we get knowing that we made an impact on at least one student. Joining The Scholar Series will be a unique experience that nothing else can replicate. By choosing to apply to our board, you will be a trailblazer in starting and continuing a lasting change for a national community. Even today, the hours editing submissions, meeting with the board, and writing my own papers have been things that I will never regret and will continue to carry throughout college and beyond. So take the first step; you won’t regret it!

“When Jane and I first sat down to discuss how we wanted to approach this small idea that we had, one of our biggest struggles was finding ways to drive engagement. I doubted that we would be able to find equally passionate people willing join our team for this project, let alone reach an audience that could help us create the meaningful change we envisioned. Looking back now, when we have the most empowering and engaged team I could have ever asked for, I realize how the Scholar Series was one of the most meaningful experiences of my high school journey. Beyond simply adding new skills to my skillset, it gave me a community of motivated and supportive people who constantly encouraged me to grow both academically and personally. The Scholar Series has truly become an environment full of genuine camaraderie and support. Not only did I gain valuable knowledge and experiences, but I also developed a clearer understanding of my goals and the type of person I want to become as I step into this next journey of my life. I truly believe that the Scholar Series can guarantee a lasting impact in everyone’s lives.”

“I think everyone should apply for Scholar Series this year because of how much you can learn about yourself in the process. As managing editor, I reached out to volunteer writers and also wrote for the issues. While doing so, being able to sit down with my thoughts and physically write them down (as opposed to just mentally wrestling with them) has allowed me the better understand my positions on different facets of societal issues. It really reinforced my passion for the humanities and paved a solid path for me to stay on during college with the goal of enacting positive changes in the world.”

“For me, Scholar Series is more than a newsletter, but it's a way to look at the world from a more honest perspective and putting those thoughts into words. Being a part of Scholar Series made me confront myself and discover what my beliefs truly were about the topic.”

“I loved my experience in Scholar Series! Not only was I able to connect with passionate students, but I was also able to exercise creativity with my writing and my social media posts. I would recommend joining the Scholar Series board because it has broadened my perspectives on global issues and help me gain experience in leading a student-run program.”

Being part of The Scholar Series has genuinely been one of the most rewarding experiences for me. Not only was I able to contribute to conversations on so many meaningful topics — from mental health to political literacy — but I also got to work alongside some of the most driven and supportive people I know.
Every meeting somehow managed to be both insanely productive and so fun, which I think says a lot about the environment this organization creates. It’s honestly crazy seeing how much The Scholar Series has grown in such a short amount of time, from expanding our outreach to even hosting our own writing competition. I’ve made so many memories and connections through this organization, and I’d absolutely encourage anyone thinking about applying to go for it!! It’s such a unique opportunity to make an impact while being part of an AMAZING community.”
